Mt Washington, NH

Today was an outstanding day on so many levels. Let us start at the beginning where every great story begins. So to the summit we go.
We headed out of Maine and across into New Hampshire with our first stop today at the wonderful Purple Cow House of Pancakes in Fairfield, ME. Hey with a name lilke that we had to stop right?
The house special sounded amazing and we all wanted some so we ordered away as it was going to be a long day and we were hungry. Plate sized pancakes I tell you. It was massive but so good. The girls could not get through it but they did eat enough to get them going.
After we managed to somehow remove ourselves from our chairs get back in the Santa Fe we rolled through the winding roads of New Hampshire. New England is really a beautiful and a wonderful place to see. If you have never been I fully endorse it. Go, see things, it is wonderful. The yellow lines brought us to the foot of the cloud covered Mt Washington.
I got us a little turned inside out trying to find out where I needed to buy tickets or pay at the gate. We got some anniversary cupcakes at the big building across from the auto road, got some swag and then back across the street. The guy really didnt want to do his job and looked in my car and was took my card and charged me tickets then came back and I said you only charge me for one person. He goes well I asked you how many! Newsflash, he did not. But he turned around recharged my card and off we went.
I was scared at first but as the cool CD told us what to do and we gradually moved up the narrow mountain road I started to have fun. The views defy description. And then the weather itself they warned us that we would be climbing through four distinct climate zones. And oh my gosh yes we did.
As we climbed to the 6288 foot summit we went from a nice 80 degree day to cloudy misty chills and fog to torrential rains. They really were not lying. It is a glorious ride both thrillingly fun and dangerous all at once.
At the top we ran into a plethora of brave souls who had HIKED to the top. I give them mad props. I do not know if that is something I could do. Listening to their stories and seeing the mud caked covered boots... really was just .. wow.
The views from the cloudy peak were pretty cool and I have to say it was a fun filming and taking pictures of the crazy Flying Squirrel at the top.
After a just a fun but crazy and sometimes harrowing drive down the mountain we headed over to our KOA with a stop at the Common Man Restaurant for dinner and an incredibly amazing dessert. Finished off heading to the KOA where we took a break and wandered. I headed down to the river to just clear my head and enjoy the night air. What a day.
