Day 1A and 1B On the Road and Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park
The Wanderdorks set off again on Friday October 22, 2021 at approximately 3pm for the 14 hour drive to Maine. Yes I said that correctly 14 hours.
Rogue One was our call-sign for obvious reasons. Check out the ride we took up to Maine.
The drive up for the most part was fine and uneventful. A few bad spots of traffic around DC but otherwise clear all the way. It did take me through New York more than I expected. The trans Manhattan something or other. I was aiming for one of the well lit service plazas that I seemed to be passing left and right but when I got to my stopping point in Connecticut it was not quite up to par. I got about an hours sleep before I just decided to start driving again. This time I ended up in good ol Massachusetts. I got out 3 hours of sleep maybe 3 1/2 but got back on the road and powered through to Maine arriving around 10:30.
Headed into Acadia and my first stop Jordan Pond. It was right up the road from where I was staying. The Park entrance was around the corner from the inn. Note coming in that lots of places were closed. Not a good sign.
Jordan Pond though. Wow. So started off from the Pond House on the eastern side of the trail and rolled along nicely. Very beautiful views as you can see.
I then circled up on Bubble Rock Trail. It said it was only .6 miles. So yeah I took it. Well.... this went straight up and was crazy. I was not prepared for it at all. I really was not prepared. But I kept going. Because at the top the view was worth every drop of sweat. Not sure it was worth me sitting on my phone and cracking the glass over the camera lenses. But oh well. It is what it is. From what I can see on the map I was at South Bubble. I took the Bubbles Divide trail back down to Jordan Pond Trail and then finished wrapping around the Pond along the rocky western shore.
After that had some food at Jordan Pond Restaurant. Had my first popover. I still dont what they exactly are. I then headed to my homebase for the week at the Lighthouse Inn. Cute little room. I finally showered and got ready for bed EARLY. But i woke back up and headed to Bar Harbor to see what was happening on a Saturday night. Well it was hopping and packed. I found the one local hole in the wall bar , Tap and Barrell Tavern and grabbed some beers and pub food to hold me over till the morning.
