Day 5 - Little Long Pond Loop Trail, Bar Harbor, Great Head Trail
So the weather was expected to be bad all day. Rain coming in early then a small break and then more rain. I decided I was at least going to have an awesome breakfast so off to Jordan's I went for a great breakfast. The rain was coming as I finished my meal. I headed back to Seal Harbor to figure out something to do for the day. As I pulled in the rain was light so I decided to head over to Little Long Pond and see what that was about around 730. Maybe I could get a walk in as the rain was breaking. I got a bit in as the wind and rain started. By the end of the 2.5 mile hike with no one in sight the rain had broke and it was cool overcast day.
After that walk is was back to the Lighthouse Inn to get dry a bit and than off to Bar Harbor. Got myself a new hat and some hot cider and wandered around for a bit. Then headed in to check out two super cool places the Jessup Memorial Library and the Abbe Museum. The library as the pictures show is just super cool. Love the old time libraries like this. And the Abbe Museum, what can I say. I learned a lot. Usually I shoot through museums just looking at one thing or another. I spent my time in here reading every nugget. It was really good. Not that I am surprised by how the Europeans did what they do. It was just learning about a whole other area not called Virginia or Maryland that was interesting.
After that decided to head back out onto the Park Loop road. I figured with the rain maybe Thunder Hole was doing something. I did not make it there. The google maps took me a back road I had not seen before and was dropped off at Schooner Head overlook. Super cool story I found out later about the overlook. But I totally did not walk down the trail. Not sure why I didnt. Just was taking a peak I guess.
But when I left I saw a road to another trail. I drove it and hell yeah got out and decided why the hell not. That seems to be the standard saying for me. So with not even extra water or a backpack I headed out along Giant Head Trail. It was only a 2 mile hike but it felt longer. Maybe because of all the stunning views and the water crashing against that amazing rocky Maine coastline.
After another fun hike it was off to dinner at Testas in Bar Harbor. Had some Main St Lobster Tacos. Was very yummy!
Another day in the books so far this trip has lived up to the expectations rain and all.
