Day 3 - Dash West to Dash East
Early morning exit from Crater Lake was planned before hand but I was still impressed that I made a smart choice before the trip. Headed to Annie Creek Restaurant for some breakfast. They were supposed to be open at 7 but for some odd reason door locked. I waited and decided I would grab something somewhere else.
I pulled out and hit my nav computer in the Starship Manard and it had kahoozled. Yeah so Crater Lake has no signal except at the top and inside the restaurant. I turned around and went back and lo and behold they were open. So breakfast and set up my trip for today.
It was a simple french toast breakfast with side bowl of fruit. Yeah who is this guy? Well stories to tell.
After that it was time for a mad dash west. So I had decided to head back to the coast and Redwoods National Park. I have been there before but wanted to do something else and drive down along the coast.
The trip was worth it! The shot here is along Highway 101 and they are called the Sister Rocks.
The 2nd picture is just me hanging out on the Pacific Coast again, after just being in the mountains. How do these people do it!
From there made a stop at one of the many Redwoods National and State Parks Visitor Centers, this one was the Houchi unit. The entire coast is literally what seems like a half dozen or more individual parks that stretch forever. The drive is just wonderful.
My goal today was the Ladybird Johnson Grove. It was dedicated to the former First Lady for her environmental efforts. The trail is a relatively short just over a mile hike and has smaller Redwoods due to this being an upland grove. When I say small well that's relative.
Once I was done out west guess what? Yeah time to dash back east. So my AirBNB for the night was in Redding, CA. This was so I could hit Lassen Volcanic National Park in the morning.
To get there I took a road that followed the Trinity River. See this picture . . .
You see that turn, now imagine that for about 60 miles of turns back and forth. CA-299 follows this river and goes up the mountains and down and around. Let's just say it was one of the neatest roads I have been on. The scenery was gorgeous. It crossed several small towns. I mean I guess you can call them towns. I mean 39 people qualifies as a town in Shasta County. Side note this is the county that is the heart of the secede from California people. Fun times.
Finally reaching Redding Ca I was greeted by a massive Hells Angel's Compound. Yes there it was. I found myself some food and headed over to the AirBNB. Where I have now finished writing up todays adventures. I am TIRED. But hey I have internet and cell service so that is good.
