Day 5 - An Unexpected Decision
Today started out relatively normal. Breakfast. This will be the first time I say something was well not good. The pancakes just were not right. But was what it was. I then came back to the AirBNB and my body crashed I just had nothing in me. I attempted to work for a few hours, answered emails looked at stuff. But nothing happened I was out of it.
That said, I really have to give a huge shout out to this Airbnb. Dr, Kay, she is this sweet New Zealand born professor. Who taught 37 years of Comparative Lit, German Literature, Art History and Critical Theory. And her AirBNB is the New Pacific Studio. When it does not have artists in residence for a simple $100 a week. I mean what a deal. She hosts AirBNB travelers like myself.
The place itself is a farmhouse built in 1856-56 by Lucian and Coelia Curtis. A gold rush pioneer Curtis came to California in 1849. The house is super amazing and was just perfect.
While I rested I finally realized what I should do today. When I came to the Bay Area in 2017. I did not get a picture of myself with the Golden Gate behind me. Mission started.
Off to the Marin Headlands I went. I had originally thought well maybe I should go when its darker and try and get a cool night shot. But then I thought of traffic. It was a good hour to the other side of the bay skipping tolls as I am cheap. It was a wise choice as traffic when I was coming back , around the time I would have been trying to get there. BACKED UP FOR DAYS.
Also there is a tunnel on the way called the Robin Williams Tunnel now and I may have cried a bit Also has super cool rainbow around the entrance.
So I arrived at the the Golden Gate Bridge area and promptly did what I should have done in 2017. Took the Marin Headlands way up. I am going to post a bunch of pictures now from various spots. But let me tell you, I was there a good two and half hours and there was still stuff around the Headlands I didnt get to check out, either closed or it was time to head back to the airbnb. But onward to some hopefully cool shots.
After those amazing shots of the bridge I continued up to the top of Hawk Hill where I helped a couple take a picture so they helped me. The top of the hill was the old Nike Missile Radar site.
Then back onto the road wrapping around the front Pacific coast side of the hill to the old Battery Rathbone-McIndoe. These old gun emplacements are just crazy. It really felt like I was stepping back into history.
Now I have to say the Marin Headlands have so much more to offer. I only caught a glimpse. BUT there was one last glimpse to be had today. And it was the best. Point Bonita. I walked along the path towards the closed Lighthouse. You can only get to it on certain days. But the path was pretty cool. Winds were super strong. But the most important part was that this was a 150 year old plus lounging area of Harbor Seals. Point Bonita Cove is their go-to place to relax away from humans. And there they were many football fields away on the rocks. I couldnt see them and wasn't even sure the camera was picking them up. I saw something move. I pointed the camera focused on the rocks and hoped for the best.
