Day 1 The flight (s) and car pick up
Well good morning . It could be closing time lol. Yep 2am wake up followed by two hour drive to DC Reagan. My drive was nice and smooth.
Then the adventure began. Thought I would get gas before the rental return. Nope. Ended up in the garage with no way out. So parked it was. $25 extra charge incoming. Drop off was easy and hiked a short way over to the terminal. Then while sitting and waiting the rental charge hit. Another 90 some dollars. Apparently for whatever reason the rental did not have unlimited mileage. Will check later.
Bag check went well. Was under the 50 lb limit. TSA got mad at me because forgot to take benadryl out of pocket. I thought I had grabbed everything. Oh well.
First leg of flight was nice. Only 63 people on board. My flight attendant informed me that my no plane change flights now had one. 6:55 am Chicago time landed.
I got boarded first on my next leg so that was good. Had a really helpful funny flight attendant. Made sure the middle seat stayed empty for me and the business guy on the aisle. Of course everyone's lives were in my hands as we were the exit row....
Denver is a big airport. Took a long trip to the baggage claim where disaster struck. Grabbing my bag it caught and ripped along the seams. Well I hauled that off to the car place feeling pretty crappy but hey I made it to Denver in one piece.
The National guy must have felt bad seeing me roam around looking for just the right SUV. There were two things I was needing USB ports and AWD or 4WD. I was about to take one when he noticed a ding on it and said you know what let me upgrade you to the executive aisle. OH YEAH DAWG!!!
Was going to leave with a nice 2020 Chevy Equinox but then across the way was sitting a Jeep Compass... the guy didnt think it was AWD drive because it had California plates. I went and checked out on a last minute whim. OH DAMN!!! Jeep Compass Trailhawk!!! It was ready to roll and out and on the way I went!!
